Watercolour

I flipping love watercolour. I love its transparency, its flow, its unpredictability, and even its lack of forgiveness.

You cannot cover up a mistake in watercolour like you can with opaque mediums like gouache, oils and acrylics. You get one shot.

Some of my works are preplanned and fail. Others are born of whims that produce a melodic composition I could have never premeditated. I find this frustrating, but also enchanting, and utterly engrossing.

I am obsessed with skies, trees, water, animals and figures. I was a graphic novel fiend, obsessed with how in just a few lines, you could create a personality. I think my love for illustration comes through – certainly in some pieces exceptionally strongly.

I often include unexpected elements in the composition, I suppose to encourage the viewer to create their own narrative around the piece. Funny – people often ask something like: what is the elephant saying to the girl?

And I am like, you tell me!
